VI Peel® Before & After Care Instructions

Before Your VI Peel Treatment

  • Schedule a Consultation: Meet with a licensed expert to discuss goals and rule out contraindications (e.g., pregnancy, illness, cold sores). Open communication ensures safety and optimal results.
  • Pause Exfoliants and Active Skincare: Stop using retinol, AHAs, BHAs, scrubs, and other strong exfoliators for at least one week prior—this prevents excess sensitivity and irritation.
  • Minimize Sun Exposure: Use daily SPF 30+ and avoid direct sun and tanning in the week before your peel. Sunburned or irritated skin is not suitable for treatment.
  • Stop Harsh Ingredients: Cease benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and other acne medications 3–7 days pre-treatment to avoid skin reactions.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink water and maintain a nutrient-rich diet for resilient, healthy skin.
  • No Waxing, Laser Hair Removal, or Chemical Peels: Avoid these procedures for 1–2 weeks before your VI Peel in the planned treatment area.
  • Special Note for Cold Sores: If prone to cold sores, consider antiviral prophylaxis and alert your provider.

After Your VI Peel Treatment

  • Post-Peel Hour 1–6: Do not wash, touch, or apply makeup/sunscreen until at least 4–6 hours after your peel is applied. Leave the solution on to ensure maximum penetration.
  • Initial Cleansing: After 4–6 hours, cleanse gently with lukewarm (not hot) water and a mild cleanser. Pat dry—never scrub!
  • Use VI Peel Kit Products: Apply post-peel retinoid towelettes and included moisturizer according to kit instructions. Hydrocortisone cream may also be used for redness or itching.
  • Moisturize Often & Avoid Picking: Apply provided moisturizer liberally as skin begins to peel, especially around the mouth and chin. Never pick or peel—let skin shed naturally.
  • Avoid Sun, Sweating, Steam & Heat: Stay out of direct sun and avoid hot showers, exercise, saunas, or steam rooms for at least 5–7 days after peeling begins.
  • SPF is Mandatory: Apply broad-spectrum sunscreen daily, even during indoor recovery.
  • Gentle Make-Up: Resume mineral makeup only after peeling starts and as directed by your provider.
  • Pause Strong Topicals: Delay restarting retinol, acids, or active skincare until cleared by your aesthetician—typically after 1 week.
  • Hydrate & Protect: Keep skin well-hydrated, avoid friction, and stick to the post-care plan for best, lasting results.

Frequently Asked Questions

Curious about our VI PEEL treatments? Here are some common questions we receive, along with detailed answers to help you understand our procedures and expected outcomes.

  • What is a VI Peel?

The VI Peel is a medical-grade chemical peel that uses a unique blend of active ingredients to exfoliate the skin, promote collagen production, and correct common concerns like acne, discoloration, fine lines, and sun damage.

  • How long does it take to see results?

Most patients notice brighter, clearer skin in 7 days, once the peeling phase is complete. Results continue to improve over 3–4 weeks as new, healthy skin cells regenerate.

  • How many treatments will I need?

While many patients see results after just one peel, a series of 3–4 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart is often recommended for optimal improvement in pigmentation, acne, or texture concerns. Maintenance peels a few times per year can help preserve results.

  • Does the VI Peel hurt?

The treatment is generally well-tolerated. You may feel a mild tingling or warm sensation as the solution is applied, but it is not considered painful. Discomfort is minimal compared to deeper chemical peels.

  • What can I expect during the peeling process?

Peeling typically starts around day 2 or 3 and lasts for about 5–7 days. Your skin will shed in light sheets or flakes. It’s important not to pick or pull at the skin—allow it to shed naturally to avoid irritation or scarring.

  • Is the VI Peel safe for all skin types?

Yes! One of the benefits of the VI Peel is that it is safe and effective for all skin tones — from fair to deep complexions. This makes it an excellent peel option for patients who may not be candidates for stronger peels or lasers.

  • Can I wear makeup after a VI Peel?

We recommend avoiding makeup for at least 24–48 hours after treatment to allow your skin to breathe and heal. Once peeling begins, you may wear light makeup if necessary, but using the post-peel skincare included with your treatment is most important.

  • How should I care for my skin after a VI Peel?

Avoid direct sun exposure during the peeling phase

Use a gentle cleanser and SPF daily (mandatory!)

Follow the post-peel kit regimen provided at your appointment

Do not exfoliate, pick, or use active ingredients (retinol, acids, etc.) until cleared by your provider

  • Who should not get a VI Peel?

Patients who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have certain medical skin conditions may not be good candidates. A consultation at Expert Skin Solutions in Tysons Corner will help determine if the VI Peel is right for you.

  • Can I have a facial and VI Peel done at the same time?

Absolutely! We often pair the two together to fully cleanse the skin and extract prior to applying the peel for optimal results
