The peels we use
Both are medical-grade. They are not the same treatment. VI Peel is the medium-depth option most patients book for pigment, acne marks, and body skin. Blue Peel is the stronger TCA peel when you need more depth and can take a longer recovery.
Medium depth
The peel we use most for discoloration, melasma, acne with leftover marks, and skin on the body. The visit is about 30 minutes. You leave with a home kit. Flaking usually starts a few days later and lasts about a week.
Deeper TCA
A trichloroacetic acid peel with a blue base so we can see coverage and control depth as it is applied. Stronger than a VI Peel. More peeling and a longer stretch of visible recovery.
VI Peel
Precision Plus for pigment and melasma. Purify Precision+ when breakouts leave color and texture behind. VI Body for chest, back, arms, and hands.
For sun spots, melasma, and color left behind after inflammation.
For breakouts that also leave color and texture behind.
For skin that is not on the face.
Obagi
Obagi Blue Peel uses TCA with a patented blue base. The color helps us see even coverage and judge depth while it is applied. Recovery is more involved than a VI Peel: more swelling, more peeling, and a stretch of days when you should not be in front of a camera or in a heat-heavy schedule.
The visit
Pause retinoids, acids, waxing, and extra sun as directed. Tell us about cold sores before the peel day.
We examine your skin to confirm if a peel is best for your current needs or another treatment, and go over your aftercare before we cleanse your skin and apply the peel.
VI Peel: about 30 minutes, an aftercare kit goes home with you. You will cleanse the peel solution 4 hours after application. Obagi Blue Peel: applied and timed in the chair before neutralization. Aftercare instructions and post care products will be sent home with you.
VI Peel: flaking days 2–7 for most people. Blue Peel: longer and more visible. Do not pick either one. Follow aftercare instructions and apply SPF daily.
FAQ
VI Peel and Obagi Blue Peel. The VI formulas we use are Precision Plus Peptides, Purify Precision+ Peptides, and VI Body. The Obagi Blue Peel is the TCA option when the skin needs a deeper treatment.
Pigment, acne with marks, and body areas usually start with VI. Blue Peel is for deeper TCA work when you want more change and can take a longer recovery. Not every patient is a candidate for the Blue Peel.
After a VI Peel, most people go back to a desk the same day. Flaking shows up 2-3 days after the peel application. After Blue Peel, plan for about a week of downtime.
VI pigment or acne work is often a series of 3–4, about 4–6 weeks apart. Blue Peel is planned one visit at a time. Maintenance depends on the skin and how well you protect and maintain it after.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, recent sunburn, open or infected skin, and some medications. Please inform us prior to your appointment if anything has changed with your medical history recently.
